On November 1, a ground-breaking ceremony was held for Hong Kong’s first ground-mounted solar farm built on a landfill, a project in support of the SAR Government’s Climate Action Plan 2050. This project exclusively uses Solargiga Energy’s Giga series PV modules, with more than 1800 units installed over an area exceeding 100,000 square feet, and is scheduled to supply power in the first half of 2025.
Located on a valley slope at the South East New Territories Landfill in Tseung Kwan O, the solar farm is estimated to generate 1,200,000 kWh of green electricity annually, enough to power approximately 360 households. The project, offering significant environmental and economic benefits, has received full support from the local Environment and Ecology Bureau and Environmental Protection Department.
The unique site selection poses higher requirements on the wind load and corrosion resistance of modules. The Giga series modules of Solargiga Energy have passed tests three times stricter than the IEC standard, demonstrating excellent wind resistance. Using advanced FPC module packaging technology, the modules can effectively prevent biogas corrosion and leakage, ensuring efficient and safe operation of the system. When the solar farm is put into operation, it can reduce carbon emissions by 468 tons per year, equivalent to the carbon dioxide absorption of 20000 trees.
