Global Footprint | “From Coal Land to Green Land”: Solargiga Energy’s Giga Series PV Modules Make Their Debut in Zimbabwe

At the beginning of 2025, the mining area PV project in Zimbabwe with Solargiga Energy Holdings Limited (hereinafter referred to as “Solargiga Energy”) as its Supplier was officially connected to the grid and put into operation, upgrading this mining area from a “coal land” to a “green land”, thereby injecting green momentum into local sustainable development. In this edition of Global Footprint, we take you inside a ground-mounted power station with Solargiga Energy as its Supplier — a mining area 2MW PV project in Zimbabwe.

Global Footprint | "From Coal Land to Green Land": Solargiga Energy's Giga Series PV Modules Make Their Debut in Zimbabwe

The mining area 2MW PV project in Zimbabwe (the “Project”) exclusively uses Solargiga Energy’s Giga Series 550W PV modules. Solargiga Energy’s Giga series modules feature advanced manufacturing technology and premium materials, offering superior resistance to wind, sand and high temperatures. Having passed rigorous sandstorm, high-temperature and long-term weathering tests, such modules have demonstrated excellent outdoor performance from Hainan’s tropical humidity to Turpan’s arid heat, Lhasa’s high-altitude conditions and Mohe’s extreme cold, establishing their position as industry-leading products in terms of quality. Despite Zimbabwe’s mining area having complex climatic conditions with heavy winds, sandstorms and harsh geographical environment, the Giga Series modules can ensure stable operation for the Project.

During construction of the Project, Solargiga Energy’s professional distribution team in Africa worked closely with construction teams on site, providing localized support directly. From project planning, module installation to grid-connected commissioning, Solargiga Energy controlled every link strictly to ensure the smooth progress of the Project. By now, the Project has been officially connected to the grid for power generation. The stable green power supply realized by the Project effectively guarantees the production efficiency of the mining area and helps local energy utilization move towards a green and sustainable future.

Zimbabwe, located between 15°-22°S latitude and 25°-33°E longitude, is a landlocked country in southeastern Africa. It is bordered by Mozambique to the east and South Africa to the south. Blessed with exceptional solar resources, Zimbabwe enjoys high radiation intensity with over 3,000 annual sunshine hours and an annual average solar power generation potential of approximately 359Kw·h/m². It boasts an estimated 109GW of solar PV potential, though its current installed PV capacity remains relatively limited, accounting for a smaller proportion in the nation-wide energy supply mix.

In recent years, Zimbabwean government has actively promoted the development of the local solar energy industry. As early as 2019, the Zimbabwe National Renewable Energy Policy was formulated, with a plan to deploy 1GW of clean energy capacity by 2025. In 2024, Washington Zhakata was appointed the Vice-chair of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Adaptation Fund Board, highlighting Zimbabwe’s crucial role in global climate governance and marking its growing influence in international climate negotiations, as well as its firm commitment to addressing climate-related challenges. In this context, Zimbabwe’s PV market demonstrates significant growth potential, leveraging abundant solar energy resources in Zimbabwe.

In recent years, China’s collaboration with African countries in the field of solar energy development and utilization has continued to deepen and become more practical, showing broad prospects for collaboration. With over two decades of manufacturing expertise, Solargiga Energy, as an established PV industry brand, will continue to support Zimbabwe and other African nations in active response to climate changes, driving green energy transformation and collaborating with global clients to create a better green future together.
